Liaoning Shihua University

Liaoning Shihua University is the first petroleum institute in China. It was founded in the year of 1950. The university is a multi-disciplinary one with petroleum and petrochemistry as its distinctive features covering 7 disciplines: engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law and education. Within the 60 years since its founding, LSHU has educated more than 80000 graduates, most of whom have become backbone technicians and administrators in China’s petrochemical industry, coal —mining industry, etc. The school is located in the beautiful city of Fushun (10 minutes drive from Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning Province), the birthplace of Qing Dynasty. 

At present, Liaoning Shihua University has more than 25000 students of different levels. The campus covers an area of over 130 hectare. New library, teaching buildings, laboratory buildings and stadium rose straight from the ground with first-class multifunctional electrical reading rooms, language labs, computer rooms, multimedia rooms, high-speed internet inside. The library possesses 2.9 million volumes of books , with the teaching and researching instruments worth 0.3 billion RMB. The number of professional teachers amounts to 928, among whom 40.6% are holding senior academic or technical titles, 70.6% of the teachers are holding master degrees, and 197 are doctoral tutors and master tutors.

Liaoning Shihua University closely follows the provincial development strategy which constructs petrochemical industry to rebuild the key disciplinary, e.g. petroleum engineering, petrochemistry, material chemistry, environmental engineering, chemical mechanics, control engineering, information engineering and economic management which embodies industrial and local economic characteristics and suits social development. Meanwhile, the university puts the emphasis on the construction of new interrelated and applied disciplines, on the development of humane and social discipline, and thus successively set up series of new disciplines catering to local economic and social development. The university now has 20 schools and colleges: School of Petroleum Engineering, School of Petrochemical Technology, School of Chemistry and Materials, School of Environment and Biology, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Information and Control Engineering, School of Computer and Communication, School of Economic Management and other colleges. The university owns 2 joint cultivating doctorate programs, 58 master programs, 11 engineering master programs and MBA program, 50 undergraduate majors and 26 vocational majors. In 2010, Liaoning Provincial Government, China National Petroleum Corporation, Sinopec Group and China National Offshore Oil Corporation came into agreement to commonly build up our university, which brings about new opportunity and provides new platform.

The education for overseas students of Liaoning Shihua University, which started from 1985, is establishing an ideal platform for those who study Chinese, disciplines of science, technology, arts and also a significant stage for mutual communication between Chinese and international students. The school enrolls almost 1000 students from USA, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Russia, Inner Mongolia with its development from primarily language training programs to the combination of both language and undergraduate programs. The university put high value on the recruitment of high-level talents, especially the ones finish their study from abroad.
